Good Vegetables for a husky and for all dog breeds.

Yes, Siberian huskies can eat vegetables because they are omnivores. Despite the “wolf image” your husky will eat his “veggie” with no problem. Many dog owners who have never offered vegetables to their husky will be reluctant.

Why should you feed your husky vegetables?

Vegetables are good for your husky. They will add vitamins, minerals, and roughage (commonly called fiber) to your dog’s diet. Vegetables are low-calories. You can add vegetables to your dog’s food in modest quantities.  Major nutrients with low calories.

If you feed your husky regular dog food then you should check if it offers the needed balanced died. If the dog food already contains everything that your dog needs, that’s perfect.

Vegetables as treats

Still, you can use vegetables as treats. Especially when they are so low-calorie. You can give them carrots or broccoli when you are training them or you feel the need to spoil your furry buddy.

Your husky will not gain unwanted weight if you are using vegetables as treats. During the summer you can freeze vegetables and serve them as they are.

Frozen vegetables are good for teething puppies

The puppy teething phase is hard for them and also for the new owners. Puppies will bite and chew everything. Husky’s teeth feel like razor blades biting into your skin. During teething, you have to give them something to chew on, or they will chew on you and your furniture.

The teething phase may be a discomfort for you, but your little husky is in pain. You can relieve your puppy’s teething pain by giving them chew toys. Besides toys, you can give them frozen vegetables or ice cubes. The frozen vegetables or ice cubes will help in soothing the aching gums and teeth of your puppy.

Raw vegetables for huskies

Raw vegetables are good for your husky and they will supply healthy fiber.

Fiber clears toxins from the body. It prevents or relieves constipation, and it has antioxidant properties.

Siberian Huskies will enjoy chewing on some whole raw carrots. Carrots will help your dogs to exercise and clean teeth and gums.

You can crush the vegetables to release their contents and to avoid any choking hazards. Huskies will chew their vegetables, but if you are not sure how they will react, it will be better if you can crush them. Still, some vegetables must be cooked before you feed them to your husky. We will talk about those too.

Carrots

Carrots are good for dogs. Either if you choose to serve them frozen, raw, or cooked, your dog will enjoy them. Carrots will help with teething pain and clean teeth. Also, carrots are good for eyesight, and they have plenty of antioxidants. You can find more about carrots for your Husky in this article I wrote.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers have high water content, really low in calories, and will keep your dog to stay more hydrated. Your husky can enjoy a few crunchy cucumber slices. These vegetables are full of water, and that is why cucumbers are perfect as hydrating snacks for huskies, especially if your husky doesn’t want to drink enough water.

Zucchini

Zucchini is another light-calorie treat for your husky. You can feed zucchini as cubes or shredded over a meal. A cup of raw zucchini only has about 20 calories it will add water and fiber to your husky diet.

Kale

Dogs can eat kale. The exception is when your dog is allergic to kale. It’s safe to feed your Siberian husky a moderate amount of kale from time to time. It can be served raw, steamed, grilled, or together with his usual food. Kale is a source of calcium, potassium, beta carotene, and magnesium.

Cut a moderate amount of kale into pieces, not the whole kale. Don’t feed your dog too much kale because it will end in diarrhea, bladder stone, or kidney problems.

The debate about kale. Good or bad?

There are some people with strong opinions about why you shouldn’t feed your dog kale. The two main reasons are thallium poisoning and the possibility of damaging functions in dogs.

Thallium is found in broccoli too. It’s a chemical element that it’s believed to have toxic properties. For dogs and for humans. It takes a large amount of kale to be ingested by your dog until they have side effects and adverse reactions to kale. We are talking about treats and a small amount of veggie for your dog, not about a diet based only on kale. So, let’s keep some realistic proportions.

If your dog is nibbling on kale, you shouldn’t get alarmed.

You check how your dog reacts to different dog foods by looking at its poop. With vegetables, it’s the same. See how your furry buddy will react. Excess is not good! Too much of anything will be bad and harm your dog.

Don’t feed your dog vegetables such as:

In special cases, a small amount of garlic is good for diabetes. Still, before you feed your dog garlic you should ask your vet about it.

Don’t feed your dog pickles.

Pickles contain salt. Too much salt will harm your dog. Salt it’s delicious for dogs but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy too! A large amount of salt can lead to sodium poisoning, which may result in dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, or seizures.

All huskies are unique, and just because some vegetables are safe for some dogs does not mean it is the best treat for your husky. Give your husky a “sample” and see how it’s reacting to it. When in doubt, the best thing to do is to ask your vet.

Moderate these
